Review and Update the Skills Matrix

See skill coverage across the team and maintain levels, qualifications, and expiry dates.

What the matrix shows

The Skills Matrix places employees in rows and skills in columns. Use it to check whether the team has the required capability and to identify qualifications that need renewal. Define skills and categories on the Skills page before assigning them here.

Read the matrix

  • Filters – narrow by Category, Skill, and Skill Type.
  • Visible categories – toggle which skill categories appear as column groups.
  • Hide unassigned – hide rows/columns with no data to declutter.
  • Checkmark or cross – whether the person has a Yes/No skill.
  • A value such as 3/3 – the person's current level and the maximum available level.
  • A date – an expiring certificate's expiry date; a warning appears when renewal is due or overdue.

Maintain skill records

  1. Filter to the relevant category, skill, or skill type.
  2. Select an employee-and-skill cell.
  3. Record whether the employee has the skill, their current level, or the certificate expiry date as required.
  4. Use Hide unassigned and Visible categories to focus the review.
  5. Act on warning icons before a required certificate expires.
