Define Skills and Certifications

Create the skill categories, competency levels, and expiring certifications used in the Skills Matrix.

Skills library and matrix

The Skills page defines what your company tracks. The Skills Matrix records which employees have each skill. Create and maintain the library first, then make employee assignments in the matrix.

Choose the correct skill type

  • Skills / Categories tabs – switch between the skill list and managing categories.
  • Yes/No – the person either has the skill or does not.
  • Level – graded competency with a defined maximum level.
  • Expirable – certification with an expiry date and a configurable warning window.
  • Table columns – Name, Category, Type, Details, Status, and edit/delete actions.
  • Add Skill (top right) and Matrix (jumps to the Skills Matrix).

Build the skills library

  1. Create a small set of clear categories, such as Safety & quality, Electrical, or Management.
  2. Select Add Skill, use the name shown on the qualification or certificate, and choose the appropriate category.
  3. Choose Yes/No for simple qualifications, Level for graded competency, or Expirable for time-limited certification.
  4. For an expirable skill, set the warning window early enough for renewal.
  5. Open Matrix to assign the skill to employees.
